How to Treat Head Lice
Regardless of how clean you keep your hair, there will always be a chance that you, or a loved one, can catch head lice. Known a Pediculus Humans Capitis, head louse are known as the adult head lice and nits are the eggs that the lice lay. You may have tried to wash the hair daily however you need to note that head lice.
Head lice are one of a few different types of louse that invade the body. Due to their stature, they all can be a little difficult to accurately identify. Their effects are inescapable however and the telltale head lice symptoms difficult to ignore.
When a lice infection is discovered, don't panic. Its best to systematically work through a range of simple processes to achieve eradication. You can start by washing sheets and pillows that the child uses, and pay attention to lounge chairs with which children may make contact.
Head lice is a very contagious condition which can easily transmit from one person to the next so if you have it, then it's best to get your immediate family also checked. In fact, even if you do completely remove the infestation it can just as easily come back via contact with someone who does.
Lice are often times as small as a sesame seed so they can be seen by the naked eye just by using a mirror to check your reflection. These bugs need a host to survive and they do this by injecting saliva into your head so they can feed on your blood.
Using head lice combs is the oldest and safest method to get rid of lice; a method that dates back to the Ancient Egyptians. Even if you use a synthetic lice treatment product or lice shampoo, you still need to use a head lice comb as it is the only way to remove the eggs, or nits as they are more commonly known, from the hair.
When there are only nits in the hair of a child, then the hair should be washed thoroughly and a special nit comb should be used to get rid of them. Live lice are hard to detect, however if you find several nits throughout the hair it could be the sign of a lice infestation.
The most common sign if you have head lice is an itching of the scalp, however itching can take weeks to occur. The itching of the scalp is caused by the scalp reacting to the saliva of the head lice. Head Lice, or head louse, are usually dark brown in colour and are approximately 2 millimetres long.
Get a nit comb. An ordinary hair brush or comb will not do as lice are tiny, about the size of a sesame seed, while their eggs also called nits are even smaller at around poppy seed size. The awkward little critters are equipped with claws that allow them to grasp firmly onto hair shafts and they also use a special adhesive.
Scientific studies of Sumithrin, Resmethrin and Permethrin reveal serious safety fears and are quite possibly carcinogenic. German studies link exposure to Permethrin and also Phenothrin with leukaemia, lymphoid cancer and multiple chemical sensitivity.
