Why is my ski boot size so much smaller than my street shoe size?
I have been to 3 boot fitters in the last 2 weeks. They all measure me out at 27.5 (9.5). In that boot, my toes just barely touch the front end when I'm standing but they come away cleanly when I lean forward into the boot in a normal stance. I consistently wear a 10.5 to 11 in a street shoe. The only thing of note is I can't get my foot into any boot with a last smaller than 104. Is it normal to have this much variation between boot and shoe size? Would I be better off in a 28 Boot? I'd jump at it, but I'm afraid that I'll be rattling around in the thing once it packs out. Any suggestion? (brands considered: Head Edge 10, Tecnica Phoenix 70, Atomic B Tech 80)
You wear a street shoe or boot measured in a US size. Ski boots are mondo point based on European measurements. A US 11 is a Europe 10 which is a 28 boot (2+8=10) I covered this in 3 different classes today on slope. Women are 1 more whole size down. The brand that fits your foot best is the one you should purchase. A proper fit boot should be tight, but not extremely painful. The boot liners will compress with use, this is normal. Add custom foot beds, and possibly some padding if they get too loose. The liners may be replaced with after market units. A high performance boot will have a liner made from a very dense material, an entry level boot will be softer and hence feel more comfortable to the user even if much control is sacrificed.
